Mirror

Hidan cut his face.

Standing in front of the bathroom mirror he set the kunai into the right corner of his mouth and cut slowly up to his earlobe, cleanly dissecting his right cheek. The pain made him wince, but he still managed a straight cut and moved on to the next cheek while blood already poured down his face and flooded his mouth.

A sudden movement, reflected by the mirror, made him spin around and instinctively dodge a blow to his head. He stared, as the mirror shattered beside his face. The fist that had aimed for his head now grabbed his shoulder, painfully digging into the skin, pushing him back against the cold mirror's glass.

Hidan stared in shock at his partner, whose black tendrils wrenched the kunai from Hidan's hand.

"What the FUCK... Kakuzu?!"

Kakuzu's eyes narrowed as he answered with a deep growl.

"What the FUCK, are you doing here?"

Hidan was bewildered by the anger that was mingled into Kakuzu's voice. What was this all about? Usually he did not care, if Hidan injured himself, as long as it did not interfere with their missions. But now, he was pissed. Really pissed.

"Kakuzu, what...?!"

"Shut up, Hidan."

The command was final and Hidan obeyed, closing his bloodied mouth. The glowing eyes of his partner examined Hidan's face, while the anger in them slowly seemed to wear off. After a long minute of staring, Kakuzu slightly relaxed the grip he still had on Hidan.

"Hold still, I'll stitch up the wounds."

The tendrils were already reaching out of Kakuzu's arm, aiming for the severed cheeks. Carefully they went to work, stitching the bleeding cuts close. Hidan glanced to the side, avoiding looking at Kakuzu and forcing himself to stay still, despite the twitching at his skin. When the sewing was nearly done, he carefully spoke.

"You know, Kakuzu, I didn't want to make fun of you... or make you feel bad... really..."

His voice dropped to a whisper.

"I just wanted..."
